About

About Me
Hi,

my name is Marc De Tollenaere and I am a freelance professional photographer based in Venice, Italy.

I have always been interested in photography, and for that reason I studied with some of the most important authors on the International scene.

My Story

I started in 2003 on the advice of Grazia Neri with a great Master of Italian photography: Gianni Berengo Gardin. In the following years I was a student of some of the greatest authors on the international scene, such as David Alan Harvey (Magnum Photos), Kent Kobersteen (National Geographic photo editor), Bob Sacha (National Geographic)m Antonin Kratochvil (VII agency), Anders Petersen and Arno Minkkinen.

I took part in meetings and seminars with photographers of the caliber of Francesco Zizola, Ernesto Bazan, Bruno Stevens, as well as with various other Magnum photographers: Alex Majoli, Paolo Pellegrin, Ferdinando Scianna.

in the everyday’s event

I became professional in 2002, publishing several books with Biblos for the series “From Veneto to Veneto” and two monographs “Venice on the edge of light”, Biblos 2007, and “Gondole”, Biblos 2009.

After many trips and reportages in India I also published the book “Kolkata” in 2007.

I was distinguished photographer in the Day’s Japan World Photojournalistic Award in 2005 with the reportage made in Kolkata, India, “Children of the city of joy” and distinguished photographer in the Italian Professional Award in 2008 with the reportage on “Treviso Christian Centre”.
Since 2007 I am the face of the Manfrotto, Gitzo, Kata, National Geographic brands, and I have been teaching photography in the Manfrotto School of Xcellence for many years.
In Italy and abroad I have been represented by the Grazia Neri agency of Milan from 2005 until 2008.

I exhibited in Photokina Kohl 2008, in Photoshow Rome 2010, in Bassano Fotografia 2011 together with Douglas Kirkland and in the Leica Galerie in Milan in 2015. Since 2012 I hold photographic workshops – especially in Venice – for the prestigious Leica Akademie. Since 2009 I also organized and held photographic workshops in India, Nepal, Vietnam, Iceland, Turkey, and Cambodia.

In 2013, along with dozens of photography enthusiasts founded in Venice “Marco Polo Photographic Association” of which I am currently the President.
In 2014 he got the license for Tour Leader in Venice.

Photo Tour

I organize photographic trips to discover a city closer to the heart and more distant from mass tourism.
Hidden corners that will illustrate stories, episodes, and emotions that only those who live there can really know.
