Light, shadows and geometries from an hidden courtyard in Venice

Cartier-Bresson used to say: “The joy is geometry”.

With this sentence in mind I like to wonder around Venice, even when light is very hard, because in the narrow courtyards it’s possible to find an interesting composition at any time of the day. In this case, I liked the place, the person, the architecture, and how light played with all of these things.

Picture taken with a Leica Q2, 1/2500s f/5,6, iso 400.

I could have used iso 100 and f/8 at 1/320 and the result in terms of light would be exactly the same, but in general, when I am in Venice I prefer to keep iso 400 all day long, in shadows and in open spaces, in order to give my full attention to the composition and the decisive moment. Light and shadows seem to play with the architecture in order to give us the opportunity to catch the right moment.

It’s different, of course, when I enter in an interior, but nowadays it’s easy to use iso 1600 without loosing any quality.
